The Cock & Pullet Traveling Pub & Maverick's Gaming Hall were started several years ago to give the "Reenacting community" a place to go and something to do after the days Battles were done, the meals cooked, rifles cleaned, and campfires lit.
Also, as many in the camp do not dance or cannot find a partner to do so with, (for various reason....not the least of which could be a regular bath), there should be something else to do.
The idea sprang forth after a group of "Reenactors" were taking thier post event meal, and were mulling over the idea that there should be something more to do in the evenings besides drink around the campfire and swap lies.
The idea came to them, that in the 1860's, there were "Saloons and Gaming houses" in the towns that the soldiers often found themselves camped by.  After a bit of trying to figure out how one could acomplish this, a unamious decision was reached by all in attendance that they should provide just such a distraction to those attending the events, and provide a safe and sane place to entertain the adult troops.
Thus the idea was born.
A Brewmaster voluntered to make his home brew of Ales, and Stouts, glassware was acquired, and the various other items that were needed to furnish the Pub, and an actual English Pub sign was comissioned and registered.
The Cock & Pullet was born!
Maverick's Gaming Hall was also started at the same time to give those in attendance a "taste" of the period games that the men of "less character" would egage in.  Period Poker chips were acquired, period cards, and the games researched as well.
Maverick's was born as well!
Now came the problem of deciding what to do with the proceeds raised from the venture.  It was decided that any monies raised would go to a Civil War related cause, whether it be Union or Confederate.
Thus it is, and reamins as the mission of the joint Ventures of the Cock & Pullet Pub and Maverick's Gaming Hall.  At the present time all monies donated are given to Camp Moore Lousiana.  Please see the link at the bottom of this page for information concerning Camp Moore.
